10 reasons to buy Aberdeen Angus from the MODELO:

1 – Our herd of Aberdeen Angus is one of the most important ones on a national level, involving some 2500 Aberdeen Angus heifers and cows for breeding; our breed is to be found all over the country. We participate actively in the Aberdeen Angus Society's tattooing programme in which 3147 heifers and cows and 1080 bulls have been tattooed over the past 6 years.

2 – We feel we are part of the dramatic expansion enjoyed by this race, starting towards the end of the nineties and still on-going. In 1992 when the Modelo attended the Prado Rural Show in Montevideo 12 animals had been entered (of which 5 belonged to the Modelo) and at the latest show, 160 animals were entered, after having been the race with the most animals entered.

3 – We breed and select Aberdeen Angus with a moderate frame and bones. Their hardiness is acquired from our rearing, 100% of the calves are weaned on natural pastures (summer pastures with a CONEAT productivity index of 70).

4 – We balance the phenotype selection with that of objective information (EPDs), placing emphasis on growth and final weight (18 months) thus improving our complete cycle system, arriving at a young Angus bull or heifer having a heavy structure, with a good yield on the hook.

5 – We continue to make a big effort in genetic investment, intensively maintaining a very noteworthy selection; every year we sell 400 Aberdeen Angus Selection heifers and cows and 50 pedigree heifers and cows. For the past 20 years we have been using semen from exceptionally good bulls from the US. We are undertaking an ambitious embryonic transplant programme (in 2005 we reached 1000 animals born by this technique). For the past three years we have added semen and embryos from outstanding Argentine cattle-breeding ranches.

6 - Our mean EPDs are ranked above the national average: 15% more at 18 months, 30% more milk and 20% more at weaning.

8 – At the end of 2006 we had carried out 39 auctions, of which 20 were held in Tacuarembo (15 Spring Auctions and 5 Autumn Auctions); selling a total of 13000 Aberdeen Angus Selection animals.

9 – We are endorsed by innumerable national prizes, both at the Prado Show and at shows in other parts of the country such as: Sarandi Grande, Sarandi del Yi, Tacuarembo, Melo, Salto, Artigas, Rocha, Aigua, Treinta y Tres and Minas among others.

10 – We have confirmed the excellence of what we produce, as have hundreds of clients who have used our genetics. Proof of this is that, during on-screen auctions that have become a usual means of selling animals for restocking in our country, a considerable number of lots have the same genetics as those of our firm.
