Forestation

The Frigorífico Modelo S.A. launched its forestation activities in 1979 with the plantation of 100 ha of pine trees on the banks of the Tacuarembó River.

After analyzing the results and realizing the excellent soil potential, between 1983 and the year 2000, we planted an area of 1,600 ha with 50% pine trees and 50% eucalyptus trees.

The timber of our pine trees has no knots, resulting in round logs with high added value, both because of the excellent quality of the timber and because they have far less waste.

Pine is sold to make furniture for export.

Eucalyptus is of vital importance for the paper industry. The timber is sold to paper mills that extract the pulp and export this raw material to Spain and Finland.
